ALDO DEFEATS BROWN TO CAPTURE WEC FEATHERWEIGHT TITLEBy Brian Peterson | November 18, 2009
 |
| Moments ago at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, Jose Aldo systematically broke down former champion Mike Brown to capture the WEC Featherweight title in an explosive performance. Brown was never really in the fight as Aldo dominated from start to finish.
Both men came out cautious at first, Brown circling while Aldo patiently stalked the champion. Brown would fire a quick combination that would back Aldo up to the cage, but the challenger immediately pusehd him off. Using his reach advantage, Aldo landed a couple of hard leg kicks that backed Brown up. A wild uppercut from Aldo would miss, but it was clear he was throwing his punches with bad intentions. Just when Brown was able to sneak in a hook and a front leg kick, Aldo exploded with a dynamic combination as he landed a right hand, left kick to the body, followed by a flying knee that had Brown rocked momentarily holding on for a single. The champion quickly recovered, and the two wrestled for position along the cage. Brown worked for a takedown, but unable to get it, he settled for trying to chop Aldo down with some good knees. The action would eventually return to the center of the ring, where Aldo would land a couple more leg kicks and a hand to seal the deal on taking the round.
When the second round started, Brown came out faster as he looked to press the action. Aldo quickly backed him up though with a nice spinning back kick and another hard knee to the stomach that forced Brown back to the cage and onto the canvas. Aldo quickly jumped on him and was able to get the full mount with ease. Brown scrambled and turned, giving up his back, where Aldo flattened him out and began to unload with a number of shots. All Brown could do was cover up and try to avoid the bombs that Aldo rained down on him until the ref called a halt to the action. Official time was 1:20 of round 2.
