ZAB JUDAH: "WE'RE GOING TO FIND OUT IF PACQUIAO IS REALLY THE TRUTH"

By Ben Thompson | December 19, 2009
ZAB JUDAH:

"If Floyd fights the fight that he's supposed to fight, then yeah, it could be an easy night for him. I fought Mayweather and one thing about Floyd is that he's a great defensive fighter...I don't think Pacquiao is going to be able to run in there and throw those kind of shots that he was hitting Cotto with, De La Hoya with and Hatton with. He's not going to hit Floyd with those same kind of shots. I mean, at least one thing in this fight is that we'll find out if Pacquiao can even take a shot. Floyd's not a hard puncher, but Floyd's gonna connect. I mean, he's sharp and he's going to be right there. He's going to connect on him so we're gonna find out if Pacquiao is really the truth. If Pacquiao beats Floyd, hey, you gotta take your hat off to him," stated former undisputed welterweight champion Zab Judah as shared his thoughts on the showdown between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. You don't want to miss what he had to say about the fight itself, the venue, the possibility of sparring with Mayweather and much more. Check it out!

BT: So what do you think the chances are of the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight happening on March 13th?

ZJ: Um, I think...I don't, I don't, I don't know.

BT: Uh oh (laughing).

ZJ: I mean, I don't think it's gonna...I don't know, I mean...

BT: (Cutting in) Whatcha hearin' Super? I know you out in Vegas. I'm sure you run into him every now and then. Whatcha hearin'?

ZJ: I mean, Floyd got money. Floyd got money, a certain number in his head that he wants.

BT: Yeah, I heard that too.

ZJ: And if they don't pay that, then he ain't fighting.

BT: I heard the exact same thing.

ZJ: Yeah, so I think now, he's going to be like, "Fuck ya'll! Ya'll gonna pay all this money for these venues, you better pay that shit to me!"

BT: Let me ask you this, as a fighter, obviously you're going to want to fight at a place that's going to get you the most money, but if you're talking about a difference of $5 or $10 million here or there, would you rather have the money or would you rather fight in front of 100,00 people?

ZJ: It doesn't matter. That doesn't matter. I guess what matters at this point is how much money you're getting. That's it! The only thing that matters right now is how much money you're going to get.

BT: That's a good point. I mean, technically, you're going to be fighting in front of millions, so why do you care where they're sitting (laughing)?

ZJ: I mean, I kind of understand what Floyd's saying. I mean, anything can happen in there. If I'm gonna fight, I'm gonna get it. I don't knock him. Like he said, if the shoe was on the other foot, would they give it to Pacquiao? Hell yeah they would give it to him. Should I bend over and lay down because of Pacquiao? Fuck him! What is he doing for me? He ain't doing shit for me.

BT: Assuming the fight does happen, I'm pretty sure you're rolling with Money and picking Floyd all day in that fight. The other day, somebody asked me who would Floyd should spar with to help get him ready for a fight with Pacquiao and the first name that popped up in my head was Zab Judah. Is that something you would ever entertain if Floyd actually asked you?

ZJ: Yeah, why not? I mean, we're already talking about it. Yeah, we're already talking about it and it could be happening. I mean, it's gotta benefit both us; it's gotta be good, but, you know, yeah, we already discussed it.

BT: I take it you think if Floyd's getting that kind of money, then his sparring partner fees should go up accordingly (laughing).

ZJ: Of course!

BT: As a slick boxer, when you look at Manny Pacquiao...we talk to Big Floyd a lot and he truly thinks this is an easy fight. When you look at Manny Pacquiao and you see what he just did to Miguel Cotto, do you really think it's going to be that easy of a fight for Floyd.

ZJ: It could be. It could be. If Floyd fights the fight that he's supposed to fight, then yeah, it could be an easy night for him. I fought Mayweather and one thing about Floyd is that he's a great defensive fighter. That motherfucker is hard to hit, you know what I mean? I don't think Pacquiao is going to be able to run in there and throw those kind of shots that he was hitting Cotto with, De La Hoya with and Hatton with. If Pacquiao beats Floyd, hey, you gotta take your hat off to him. The only way I see Pacquiao winning is a 12-round split decision. I mean, Floyd's dealing with a lot. He's fighting Bob Arum, he's fighting Vegas and he's been in a lot of trouble lately. They watch all that kind of stuff, you know what I mean? And here's a guy [Pacquiao], a clean-cut guy who's into politics and into defnding his country, you know what I'm saying? Plus, he could be running for the Presidency of his country. I mean, not only is he a fighter, but he could have ties to Obama and the rest of these guys (laughing).

BT: Yeah, if De La Hoya could lose a split decision to Floyd, then maybe Pacquiao can win a split decision.

ZJ: At the end of the day, it's going to be a good fight regardless. It's going to be a great fight. It's going to be an interesting fight.
