"Chad gave him a lot of different looks and that's what I'm looking forward to doing, giving him a lot of different looks. I'm going to make him use them old legs he gotÂ… I think if I crack him a couple of times, if I don't knock him out, I'm going to buzz him. the Mack Attack is on the rise again and look out because me and Glen Johnson is going to start the New Year off right," stated light heavyweight contender Yusaf Mack as he talked about his upcoming January 30th clash with Glen Johnson. Check it out!
PC: You have Glen Johnson coming up on January 30th. How is training camp going?
YM: You know I'm just working hard man. I'm working real hard. I'm watching Edison Miranda get ready right now.
PC: Glen Johnson is coming off of a one-sided decision loss to Chad Dawson. Did you see anything in that fight that you can implement into your gameplan?
YM: Yeah, he gave him a lot of speed and movement. Chad gave him a lot of different looks and that's what I'm looking forward to doing, giving him a lot of different looks. I'm going to make him use them old legs he got!
PC: How big of an opportunity is this for you to be on HBO fighting on the undercard of Mosley-Berto?
YM: It feels great man. I feel it's my time. I'm here to prove to the world once again, like I did against Chris Henry, that I deserve to be where I'm at.
PC: You haven't lost a fight in a long time since the Andrade fight. What have you done differently to change things up?
YM: The first big change was for me to get a new trainer. He knows everything it takes to win. I'm doing everything that I'm supposed to do. When I was fighting at super middleweight, I was doing everything the wrong way. Now that I have moved up to light heavyweight, I feel healthy and I'm doing everything that I'm supposed to do; everything that they tell me to do.
PC: The light heavyweight division is getting interesting. What direction do you see the division going?
YM: I feel this is going to be the division to be in because all of the good super middleweights are going to eventually move up to light heavyweight and we're going to get it cracking from there.
PC: What can the fans in Vegas expect from Yusaf Mack on January 30th?
YM: They can expect to see a young and talented light heavyweight show off and do his thing.
PC: Johnson is a tough veteran man and he's been a survivor. What do you think of Glen as a fighter at this stage in his career?
YM: He's still good. As a person, I don't really know him, but as a fighter, I have been watching him since I was younger. He's real aggressive and he tries to rough you up, but only if you let him rough you up. The only person I didn't see let him rough them up is the all-time great and one of my heroes, Bernard Hopkins. He's the only one to stop him and hopefully I can be the next one to do that and if I don't stop him, just get the win and make it look real good.
PC: You fight with a very old school style. Is that because Bernard is one of the guys you studied coming up?
YM: Yeah. When I was an amateur, Bernard used to workout at the same gym and when he would box, I would sit on the side of the ring and watch him. I always said if I could put my skills with his, I could be the best and hopefully on the 30th of January, I can do that.
PC: What would a win over Glen Johnson mean to you Yusaf?
YM: It would get me through the door and hopefully I could fight Chad or Tavoris or even Pascal.
PC: Do you want to fight 4 to 5 times in the upcoming year?
YM: Yes sir. I would hope that once I get this win, Tavoris Cloud would fight me because I will be number one and if Tavoris don't want to fight me, just pay me that money and I will move on to the side, you know? But I hope that doesn't happen. I want to fight the best and prove that I'm the best.
PC: Any prediction for your fight with Glen?
YM: I just want to use my skills and show the world who I am. If the knockout comes, it comes, but I'm not looking for it. I'm definitely looking for the win. He's a man and I'm a man and the best guy is going to win that night. All of our chins can only take so much pressure. I think if I crack him a couple of times, if I don't knock him out, I'm going to buzz him. Everybody knows that from the Chris Henry fight. I buzzed him up real good.
PC: I appreciate your time man; best of luck to you in your fight against Glen Johnson next month. Is there anything you want to say in closing?
YM: I just want to say to the fans that the Mack Attack is on the rise again and look out because me and Glen Johnson is going to start the New Year off right.
