In light of the recent news that the January 30th welterweight unification between Shane Mosley and Andre Berto has been cancelled, FightHype.com caught up with Mosley's trainer, Naazim Richardson, to get his thoughts on the subject. "My heart goes out to all of the people of Haiti and from what I hear, Berto's mom or sister either stayed out there or was a frequent visitor, so he had a lot to deal with," stated Richardson. "We didn't want any excuses, so I think it was best he checked up on his family."
Richardson also said that camp was going great and it's unfortunate that the fight had to be cancelled as Mosley was definitely ready to make a statement to the rest of the welterweight division. "He was ready! It's disappointing, but not because he had already cut weight or anything. His weight was good and I had him eating good, so that wasn't a problem," he added. "How much work he had put in is the most disappointing, but we totally understand."
Despite the fact that it appeared as though Berto's decision to withdraw came out of nowhere, Richardson revealed that he had already heard rumblings about the possibility as soon as the devastating tragedy took place in Haiti. "We were hearing the rumors that he may pull out and you kind of prepare yourself for that," he commented.
