"Me and Shane Mosley is May 1st. It's just another obstacle that, you know, I have to accomplish and another obstacle I have to cross...At first, Pacquiao, that fight made a lot of sense of course, but then we go to the second option if the first option don't work...The question that people want to know is why didn't Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather fight? It wasn't my fault! I'm not duckin' and dodgin' nobody. 40 have came and 40 have came up short," stated undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. as he briefly talked about his long-awaited May 1st showdown with WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley. It didn't take long, however, before Mayweather turned his attention to Manny Pacquiao, who he was originally set to face until the request for Olympic-style drug testing ultimately killed the megafight. Check out what Mayweather had to say when he called in to Shade 45 yesterday and spoke with DJ Whoo Kid about the failed negotiations, the reason why he believes all fighters should be randomly tested and much more.
On his May 1st showdown with Shane Mosley...
Andre Berto was supposed to fight Shane Mosley, now me and Shane Mosley is fighting May 1st.
Me and Shane Mosley is May 1st. It's just another obstacle that, you know, I have to accomplish and another obstacle I have to cross.
Everything takes time, you know? Everything takes time. You go with what makes business sense first. At first, Pacquiao, that fight made a lot of sense of course, but then we go to the second option if the first option don't work.
I'm going back into training after the [NBA] All-Star game.
On the collapse of the megafight with Manny Pacquiao...
The thing is this, what people don't know about the sport of boxing, in a fighter's career, a fighter starts off good and he be good all the way to end of his career or a fighter starts off good and goes downhill towards the end of his career. A fighter doesn't start off like Manny Pacquiao, just ordinary, and then once he gets over the age of 25, he becomes an extraordinary fighter. It just doesn't work like that in this sport of boxing. So all I was saying is I'm just trying to clean up sports period. I'm saying that he's not the only one that has to take a random drug test, I do too. That's the only thing I was saying. I never met nobody in sports history that didn't want to take a 25 million dollar drug test.
All drugs don't show up in your urine. All I'm saying is random blood test me, him and any other fighter because I'm trying to clean sports up period. At one particular time in sports, they wasn't taking HIV tests, but now they take HIV tests. At one particular time in the sport of boxing, you weigh in the morning of the fight. Now you weigh in a day before the fight. So it's out with the old and in with the new. Everything changes. At first in the NBA, they didn't have the 3-pointer. Now they got the 3-pointer. So like I said before, things change and we gonna keep striving and move on to bigger and better things.
The question that people want to know is why didn't Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather fight? It wasn't my fault! I'm not duckin' and dodgin' nobody. 40 have came and 40 have came up short. One thing about my mother that I love, the thing she tells me all the time is this, "If God with you, can't no man beat you." So that's my thing I take into the ring with me every time. I took it in the ring 40 times; I was victorious 40 times. What the fans fail to realize is the fans need to go to YouTube and look and pull Manny Pacquiao up. I'm not knocking him. Congratulations to his success. But the thing is this, if Manny...the thing is this, people are trying to see the abnormal. The abnormal is they're trying to build a fighter that can possibly beat Floyd Mayweather. That's what they trying to do.
I already signed my end of the bargain. He didn't sign his end of the bargain.
What people don't know right now, it's a fighter right now out here in Las Vegas. He's in the hospital right now. His hospital bill is all the way up to a million dollars. All the way up to a million dollars. He took some head shots and the guy that he fought, we don't know what the guy was on because he only had to take a urine test. Now if he was to take a blood test, then that guy may not even be in the hospital because you don't know what the guy was taking. I'm not saying he was taking nothing, but we just don't know.
The thing is this, I want to please the fans, but I must be safe and protect myself first. I'm first! You have to be intelligent; you have to be smart.
I guess fighters and athletes in today's time have to cheat to win.
