"I'm not sure if he's the best defensive fighter, but he is a very slick fighter and that won't happen. I'll be prepared for that; the movements. I can do the same things he does, so if he's gonna move, I'm gonna move. If he's gonna fight, I'll fight," stated WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley, who made it clear that he's fully prepared for anything that Floyd Mayweather Jr. may bring to the table. Known for his own uncanny ability to imitate other fighters, Mosley is confident that years of studying and emulating Mayweather style during sparring sessions has prepared him for the difficult task at hand when both men step inside the ring on May 1st.
"I can do it all. I do it all, so I'm not going to be wrapped up in what he's doing. He's gonna be wrapped up in what I'm doing and how I'm going to take it to him," he emphasized as he shared his thoughts on how the fight will play out. Mosley believes that his own familiarity with Mayweather's style will allow him to capitalize on some defensive flaws that others have yet to take advantage of. "When I go in there, I don't care about what Floyd thinks. When I go into a fight with a fighter, it doesn't matter what they think. It's about what I'm going to do when I get there and I'm going to give it to him," he explained.
Mosley was also quick to point out that his punching power in both hands will be key against a fighter like Mayweather, who's elusive style has left many opponents struggling to land any significant punch. "I can knock you out with my left or my right. I knocked Vargas out with my right hand the first time and I knocked him out with my left the second time; it doesn't matter," he continued. "If I want to, I could close my eyes and swing and he might go down because I hit him with a good shot."
Obviously, Mosley isn't planning on relying solely on his power. He is confident, however, that his physical attributes, combined with the proper strategy developed by his trainer, Brother Naazim Richardson, will give him the edge that other past opponents lacked when facing Mayweather. "The main thing that I have over him is the size, meaning that I'm a little bigger than all the guys that he's fought up to now. That's going to give him problems. And I'm not a slow, big guy. I'm a faster guy that has rhythm. That's what's going to give him problems; somebody's that's able to do the things he does and be able to counter his counter," he added. "I gotta make sure that when I get ready for this fight, that me and Naazim go over all the strategies that we're going to do and do it!"
