Does anyone expect Lesnar-Carwin to get out of the first round? Carwin has won each of his twelve fights without even seeing the second round. The health of Lesnar is still a question mark until he steps into the cage and even then, the Lesnar that destroyed Frank Mir at UFC 100 would be considered beatable by a guy with Carwin's power and striking ability. Mir lost to both men. Watch the fights and see which provided the bigger statement. Lesnar could very easily decide to smother Carwin and win a lopsided decision that will draw more boos than cheers, but remember, no one really knows what will happen the first time Lesnar gets hit flush.
Cris Cyborg can fight!
Cris Cyborg put an absolute beatdown on Jan Finney at the Strikeforce event last weekend. I came away from that fight with three thoughts: no fighter should ever have the nickname "Cuddles" no matter how tough she is (and Jan Finney is tough as nails), Kim Winslow should have stopped the fight far earlier than she did, and I still really miss Gina Carano.
Fedor tapped!
Yes, the Last Emperor was submitted in less than two minutes to a basic triangle armbar. Even the best still commit rookie mistakes. Frank Mir, one of the best BJJ big men in the world, let his wrist get trapped against Lesnar in their rematch. It happens. It goes without saying that the win is huge for Fabricio Werdum. Fedor wants, and will almost certainly be granted, an immediate rematch. As big as this news is, Strikeforce wants and needs Fedor to face Overeem, not Werdum. Fedor also needs Strikeforce, as Dana White has said that he does not want Fedor in the UFC. Right...he also said Kimbo Slice would never fight there either. I'm sure that's the case now, but that stance will change if Fedor knocks out Werdum and Overeem in short order in the next few months.
What if Toney wins?
It's easy to ridicule the upcoming James Toney vs. Randy Couture fight at UFC 118. Just think about this: what if Toney wins? What if the boxer who Jim Lampley once referred to as a "big, fat tub of goo" knocks out the living MMA legend? Think about it for a little while and let it soak in. More on that as the event approaches.
