"We're still here waiting for HBO to give us an answer. We're ready, willing, and able to fight Paul Williams and it looks like there is not a Plan B for HBO. We're in the hands of the executives...Like I've said before, HBO does not have a Plan B. It's up to HBO to come up with a Plan B. Sergio is not one of the champions who will tell you whom he is fighting. He will tell you when. Most likely, it will be October 2, but we don't know with whom," stated promoter, matchmaker and adviser Sampson Lewkowicz as he discussed the future plans of middleweight king Sergio Martinez. Check it out!
MJ: What's the latest going on with Sergio?
SL: We're still here waiting for HBO to give us an answer. We're ready, willing, and able to fight Paul Williams and it looks like there is not a Plan B for HBO. We're in the hands of the executives.
MJ: I've heard that Paul Williams is causing problems because he wants a higher percentage of the purse.
SL: Well, I don't know if he's causing a problem. He's a great fighter and probably he wants the extra because he knows he will not beat Sergio Martinez, so he wants to get all he can get, however, the champion is Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez and I would never let it [getting the lower percentage] happen to him.
MJ: Is there any chance for a Floyd Mayweather fight down the road for Sergio?
SL: Maybe Sergio Martinez has more of a chance for that fight than Manny Pacquiao, I'll put it that way.
MJ: Have any Mayweather people talked to you about that fight?
SL: I believe that if the Money Man wants the money, he will get a bigger payday with Martinez than he will with Pacquiao because he needs to split 50-50 with Pacquiao.
MJ: Are you willing to agree to all of Mayweather's terms to make the fight, including the drug testing?
SL: Well, let me put it this way. My fighter never takes beer, alcohol, smoke, anything that can be harmful to him. Definitely we will do it. Personally, I disagree with all these tests, but we'll do it because we have nothing to hide.
MJ: If the Paul Williams fight can't be made, do you know who would be your Plan B for Sergio?
SL: Like I've said before, HBO does not have a Plan B. It's up to HBO to come up with a Plan B. Sergio is not one of the champions who will tell you whom he is fighting. He will tell you when. Most likely, it will be October 2, but we don't know with whom.
MJ: Do you know where it will take place?
SL: Lou DiBella loves New York and it'll most likely be in that direction. There is a large population of Argentineans and I strongly believe they will go to see their champion, Sergio Martinez.
MJ: Is there anything else you'd like to tell the fans at FightHype.com?
SL: I've had so many good experiences with Sergio. I believe he's the champion of the people. Most importantly, for the first time, I see he's bigger in the Mexican and American and European communities. I'm happy he's being recognized in these communities. He's a great champion and a great human being.
