"Let me tell you something man, everybody wants to see this Pacquiao fight. If that fight would have happened already, they would have Floyd in jail," suggested world-class trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr., who recently spoke to FightHype's own Percy Crawford regarding the serious legal problems that his son is now facing. Floyd Mayweather Jr. faces eight criminal charges in conjunction with an alleged domestic violence incident that took place earlier this month involving the mother of three of his children, Josie Harris.
The charges include two counts of felony coercion, for threatening to beat his 10-year-old son if he left the house when the incident took place, four misdemeanor charges, including three counts of harassment and one count of domestic battery, for the alleged beating of Harris, as well as felony grand larceny and robbery, for taking her cell phone afterwards. Indeed, these are serious charges, and Mayweather Sr. is rightfully concerned that his son may have gotten himself into a situation that his amazing defense skills will not be able to get him out of.
In fact, Mayweather Sr. is convinced that if the proposition of an extremely lucrative fight with Manny Pacquiao didn't exist, then in all likelihood, the city of Las Vegas may not have been kind enough to release him on a mere $3000 bail after arresting him on the grand larceny charge. "They know its money to be made and that's why he's free now. I'm telling you what I know, man, if they had already fought and Pacquiao won or Lil' Floyd won or whatever, they would have him," Mayweather Sr. added, suggesting that a lot people outside of boxing also stand to gain from a mega-fight between his son and Manny Pacquiao.
Can Mayweather's legal problems actually increase the likelihood of the fight taking place sooner rather than later?
