Andre Dirrell's shocking exit from the Super Six tournament has the boxing world buzzing, with so many people wondering why and what has attributed to he's pulling out. Moments ago, Dirrell's promoter, Gary Shaw, spoke to FightHype to shed some light on the evolving situation regarding his fighter, reaffirming initial reports that Dirrell is indeed pulling out due to a neurological issue that will prevent him from entering the ring for the time being.
While Shaw himself hasn't spoken to Dirrell since the news broke, he did say that he doesn't know the exact cause of the neurological trouble. When asked if it had anything to do with the late punch Arthur Abraham landed on him while Dirrell was on the ground, Shaw said that it was a possibility. He went on to further comment that not only is Dirrell out of the tournament, but he will not be fighting at all in the near future and Showtime isn't planning on keeping a network date warm for him whenever he does get better.
This latest news has been another in a string of incidents for Shaw, whose other star fighter, Alfredo Angulo, not only botched a career high payday by turning down a bout with Sergio Martinez, but is now also neck deep in immigration problems after it was discovered that he was in the United States illegally. At least one of Shaw's fighters, Rafael Marquez, will be in action against Juan Manuel Lopez on November 7th. It should be a great night of boxing that will take our minds off of this troubling episode for the time being. On behalf of FightHype, we wish Dirrell the speediest of recoveries.
