NAGY AGUILERA: "I'M GOING TO KNOCK ANTONIO TARVER OUT!"

By Percy Crawford | October 14, 2010
NAGY AGUILERA:

"He picked me and he got me and I'm going to show him Friday night that what he did in picking me was wrong...I'm the younger guy and I'm the underdog and he thinks he's going to walk into the heavyweight division like he did at light heavyweight, but it's not going to be easy like he thinks...I hope Tarver is ready because I'm ready. By the time Saturday rolls around, I will be on all of the websites and all of the newspapers because I'm going to knock Antonio Tarver out," stated heavyweight Nagy Aguilera as he talked about his plans to spoil Antoino Tarver's debut in the heavyweight division this Friday. Check it out!

PC: How is everything going my man?

NA: Everything is going good. I can't wait until Friday for the fight.

PC: How was your training camp for this fight? You had good notice, so I'm sure you sparred with some good southpaws.

NA: Training camp was really good. I sparred with some lefty guys and I feel really comfortable. I have been training really hard.

PC: You are welcoming him into the heavyweight division. Do you feel somewhat disrespected that you were picked as the first opponent for Tarver and he's skipping an entire weight division?

NA: It makes it interesting for me. He picked me and he got me and I'm going to show him Friday night that what he did in picking me was wrong.

PC: Tarver is a crafty veteran of the sport. What do you feel are the keys to victory for you?

NA: You can't underestimate nobody, so I'm just training hard and doing what I'm supposed to do. The day of the fight, I have to fight with him. He's fighting in a weight class he's never fought in before and I have to show him that it's not easy fighting at heavyweight.

PC: Tarver likes to sit back and dictate the pace and flow of a fight. How important is it for you to not allow him to do that and make him fight?

NA: It's real important. He's the older guy. He's 41 or 42 and he just wants to set a pace. He don't want to go at nobody else's pace. I'm going to show him when I set the pace and I'm doing everything in there.

PC: He's never been stopped and only been down a couple of times. Do you think you can be the first guy to stop him being that he is fighting you in your division?

NA: I'm ready to beat him by decision, but if the knockout comes, I will take it. He has to be ready for that.

PC: You just fought in August. It has been a long time since we have seen Antonio Tarver in a ring. Do you think just your sheer activity could be enough to help you in this fight?

NA: It can play a big part in this fight. Tarver is a great opponent though and he is a very smart fighter. He has experience and I'm sure he knew what he was doing when he took this fight. I'm the younger guy and I'm the underdog and he thinks he's going to walk into the heavyweight division like he did at light heavyweight, but it's not going to be easy like he thinks.

PC: Is the game plan to avoid his left hand and keep him going backwards pretty much?

NA: He has a big left hand and everything, but I can punch with both hands, so it doesn't make a difference to me.

PC: What is it like for you to have this opportunity on Showtime against a well-known fighter like Tarver?

NA: It is an opportunity for me. When I beat him, it's going to open doors for me to fight world champions and better known fighters. When I'm done boxing or I die, nobody can take this victory away from me.

PC: What can the fans expect from you on Friday night?

NA: They can expect to see quick hands and a lot of power, so Tarver better be ready for it.

PC: I look forward to the fight; best of luck to you. Is there anything you want to say in closing?

NA: I hope Tarver is ready because I'm ready. By the time Saturday rolls around, I will be on all of the websites and all of the newspapers because I'm going to knock Antonio Tarver out!
