FREDDIE ROACH: "I DON'T THINK THIS WILL BE A DIFFICULT FIGHT AT ALL"

By Gary Reynolds | November 03, 2010
FREDDIE ROACH:

The bigger he is, the more he weighs, the better off we are. Size doesn't win fights, skill does, and we outweigh him in those departments. I don't think this will be a difficult fight at all...8 or 9 rounds, I think we'll break him down. His foot speed, and his wide punches, he makes too many mistakes to beat us I feel. He has too many bad habits and we're going to take advantage of all of them," stated world-class trainer Freddie Roach, who moments ago participated in a conference call to discuss the upcoming November 13 showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito. Check out what else he had to say about the fight, Margarito, how training has been going for Pacquiao, and much more.

On how training camp has been going lately...

Since we've been here in LA in the Wild Card, he's been running about on Hollywood time and so forth. Everything's on track now. We're 100% ready for the fight. Manny guaranteed me he will not disappoint me and I know that's true. I expect great things. He sparred 9 rounds yesterday with 3 different opponents and did very well. We're starting to taper back now and he's starting to cut back each day and just saving for the fight.

On the size difference between Pacquiao and Margarito...

The bigger he is, the more he weighs, the better off we are. Size doesn't win fights, skill does, and we outweigh him in those departments. I don't think this will be a difficult fight at all.

On the number of distractions that Pacquiao deals with...

Manny has always been a multi-tasker. There's no way he [Margarito] trained harder than us, I can guarantee you that. We're in great shape for this fight and it'll show on the 13th.

On whether he's pleased with how training camp has gone...

Well, we've always had an A training camp and I give this one a B. We only missed one day that I was upset about. The thing is, there was just one day, and it probably did him more good than harm and, the thing is, we're very focused and we're training hard for the fight. We're doing the road work; we're doing all the work. We haven't taken this fight lightly. Manny is a professional. He knows how to get in shape and he's done that for this fight.

On Margarito and the fight itself...

I think we'll stop him. I think he'll be overwhelmed with the punches we're going to land on him, our speed, and the fast hands and the combinations; I think will overwhelm him. 8 or 9 rounds, I think we'll break him down. His foot speed, and his wide punches, he makes too many mistakes to beat us I feel. He has too many bad habits and we're going to take advantage of all of them.

He was suspended for a year, he did his time, he's a free man now and he's eligible to fight. It's the best fight out there for us right now. It's going to be an action-packed fight. It's going to be a lot better than the Clottey fight, of course, 'cause everyone knows Margarito throws punches. He's a volume puncher, three-time world champion, so we got our hands full, but what we're ready for what it takes to beat him. Again, I don't see any issues. Again, he did his year suspension and that's it.
