FLOYD MAYWEATHER SR: "UNLESS LIL FLOYD KNOWS IT'S AN EVEN PLAYING FIELD, THEN IT'S NOT WORTH IT"

By Percy Crawford | November 10, 2010
FLOYD MAYWEATHER SR:

"I basically told him, man, that unless he knows it's an even playing field, then it's not worth it. They got people thinking that Pacquiao done agreed to everything, and he may have agreed to all the testing, but he keeps talking about this cutoff date...Lil Floyd is clean and he will take all of them tests. See, people gotta understand that my job as a father is to protect my kids; it's no different than their job as a father. The fans only want to see a fight. They don't give a damn if Lil Floyd gets killed in the ring. Ask the fans how many of them have donated to the Leavander Johnson Foundation. I'm not saying the guy that gave him the beating was on something, but the point I'm trying to make is that the fans don't care about you once the fight is over...I trained one guy whose opponent got caught cheating after the fight. Oscar De La Hoya fought Shane Mosley, who later admitted he was on something, and Fernando Vargas got caught afterwards, but guess what? If Oscar would have gotten killed in one of those fights, it's too late then," stated world-class trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr., who revealed that he had a recent conversation with his son regarding the potential showdown with Manny Pacquiao. You don't want to miss what else he had to say. Check it out!

PC: Things going better for you today my man?

FM: Oh yeah! I feel good, but the other night, when it was time for the band to go home, it was time for me to go as well (laughing). I'm just telling you it wasn't good man.

PC: I know just from talking to you how serious the disease itself is, so I'm glad to see that you bounced back.

FM: Oh yeah!

PC: You told me that when Floyd came to visit you, that you talked to him about the Pacquiao fight. How did that conversation go?

FM: I basically told him, man, that unless he knows it's an even playing field, then it's not worth it. They got people thinking that Pacquiao done agreed to everything, and he may have agreed to all the testing, but he keeps talking about this cutoff date shit, and to me, that ain't no good. If a motherfucker ain't got nothing to worry about, he wouldn't need a cutoff date or need to know when they coming and all of that shit. Lil Floyd is clean and he will take all of them tests. See, people gotta understand that my job as a father is to protect my kids; it's no different than their job as a father. The fans only want to see a fight. They don't give a damn if Lil Floyd gets killed in the ring. Ask the fans how many of them have donated to the Leavander Johnson Foundation. I'm not saying the guy that gave him the beating was on something, but the point I'm trying to make is that the fans don't care about you once the fight is over. So it's my job to make sure my son is not getting into a situation that we could have controlled. Because trust me, if Pacquiao fights my son on an even playing field, he's getting knocked out! I'm telling you what I know man. And he knows it. Freddie Roach may have a little belief in him, and he's supposed to, but trust what I'm telling you man. If they fight Lil Floyd after taking the random tests, Lil Floyd would stop Pacquiao.

PC: And that's the only thing preventing this fight from happening?

FM: Yeah! See, they come out and said, "Oh, Pacquiao agreed to all testing," but they don't tell you he asked for a 12 day cutoff, a 15 day cutoff, a 14 day cutoff, and all of that shit. Listen man, let me tell you something, I trained one guy whose opponent got caught cheating after the fight. Oscar De La Hoya fought Shane Mosley, who later admitted he was on something, and Fernando Vargas got caught afterwards, but guess what? If Oscar would have gotten killed in one of those fights, it's too late then. We trying to have an even playing field before it gets to all of that. I'm looking out for the best interest of my son and that's what I'm supposed to do as a father.

PC: What if this fight never happens?

FM: They will go their separate ways and Floyd will still go down as one of the best ever. See, I saw Pacquiao saying he did more in his career. Pacquiao was losing to Eric Morales in 2000 man, so let's just say he's been dominating people after the Morales loss. That's 9 years. Lil Floyd turned pro in 1996 and hasn't lost a fight, so that's 15 years he's been dominating. Like I said, the only thing Manny done accomplished that Floyd hasn't is 3 losses, and 2 by knockout to some no-name guys. They have both fought some tough guys. People make it like all 41 of Floyd's opponents were hand-picked bums and all of Manny's opponents have been killers; come on man. Get outta here with that shit man.

PC: Off subject, but what did you think of Zab Judah's performance the other night?

FM: Man, I'll be honest with you, I don't know if Zab won that fight. He was trying to fight like Lil Floyd a lot in that fight and he was doing it well early on, but he got broke down to the body and he wasn't throwing enough punches. Then, when that guy dropped him, you could see he wasn't the same after that. He went into survivor mode. I don't know what's next for Zab or whatever man, but if you would have asked me to pick a winner on Saturday night, I can't say I would have picked Zab.

PC: Best of luck to you on the 27th with your undefeated prospect. I will talk to you soon.

FM: Thanks Percy. Take care of yourself now.
