"Why would a man give up that big of a weight advantage when he had other options," stated world-class trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr., who didn't seem surprised to hear that Manny Pacquiao weighed in at a surprisingly light 144.6 pounds for his jr. middleweight clash with Antonio Margarito. While Pacquiao came in well below the welterweight limit of 147 pounds, Margarito tipped the scales at the contract weight of 150 pounds, which is 4 pounds less than the 154-pound jr. middleweight limit.
Despite the weight disadvantage, Mayweather Sr. believes the end result will be the same, no matter what Margarito brings to the table. "Why would Pacquiao come in so light," Mayweather Sr. reiterated, convinced that Margarito's role come Saturday night is to make Pacquiao look even better than Shane Mosley did when he defeated the Tijuana Tornado via 9th round stoppage in January of 2009.
Does Mayweather Sr. have a point, or can Pacquiao, who's not even a full-fledged welterweight, stop a man who will likely outweigh him by 20 pounds come fight night? We'll soon find out in roughly 24 hours.
