"He was the same tough sun of a gun I fought the first time, you know? This time, I spread my punches out a little bit better instead of wasting them all in one round...this time, I took my time. I knew that if I hurt him, I knew that he would be sticking around," stated undefeated welterweight contender Mike Jones as he talked about his impressive victory over Jesus Soto-Karass this past weekend. Check it out!
PC: Congratulations on the big win over Soto-Karass.
MJ: Thank you sir!
PC: You mixed it up very good on Saturday night with your jab, head shots and body shot combinations. What were some of the things you felt you had to do differently this time around?
MJ: Well, first of all, it started with training camp. I kind of did everything my way. I was able to eat everything that I wanted to eat and I was a little bit more comfortable going into the fight. I just pretty much did things my way this time and felt a lot more comfortable going into the fight.
PC: You were just in there with Soto-Karass 3 months prior to this fight. Was there anything that surprised you about his skill set this time around?
MJ: He was the same tough sun of a gun I fought the first time, you know? This time, I spread my punches out a little bit better instead of wasting them all in one round.
PC: It was almost a curse in the first fight to hurt him that early because a fighter's instinct is to go for the finish.
MJ: Yeah, and that hurt me in the first fight, but this time, I took my time. I knew that if I hurt him, I knew that he would be sticking around.
PC: You were really doing damage with those right hands to the body and you can tell that you sensed that because you threw about five in a row to the same spot.
MJ: Yeah, I seen him hurt off of them body shots, so I tried to stay there. I was surprised he stayed up from them.
PC: How did it feel to go 12 rounds for the first time?
MJ: It felt good. It opened my lungs up and it's getting me ready for these championship fights.
PC: I hear you guys are doing your thing, so I won't hold you up, but we gotta get you on the website on a regular basis.
MJ: Okay, no problem. Thank you!
