J'LEON LOVE: "I KNOW WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A CHAMPION"

By Brad Jones | December 03, 2011
J'LEON LOVE:

"This camp truly was a family and everyone made the best out of it. I have improved so much in every area of my game. I know what it takes to be a champion and I definitely know how to train like one. I learned a lot training alongside Rios and Tony and the other guys here in camp, and I'm just adding what I learned into my training," stated up-and-coming middleweight J'Leon Love, who talked about the work he did in helping Antonio Margarito prepare for tonight's clash with Miguel Cotto, his future plans and more. Check it out!

BJ: How you doing?

JLL: I'm fine, thanks for asking.

BJ: What was it like to be a part of the latest 24/7?

JLL: This experience is great for any upcoming prospect. For me, I think this is just what I needed to take myself and career to the next level.

BJ: How was the sparring? Did you hold your own against Margarito?

JLL: Sparring with Tony was awesome. Yeah, I held my own, but I also learned so much from Tony.

BJ: What do you think of him as a fighter? Has he still got it?

JLL: He's truly a great fighter. I definitely think he still has it, for sure, and can still deliver on great fights to come, and he is still capable to perform on the elite level.

BJ: For those who don't know, who else was in camp with you?

JLL: In this camp, you had Robert Garcia, me, Brandon Rios, Jesus Soto Karass, Jose Soto Krass, Juanito Gonzalez, and many more.

BJ: Who else did you spar with?

JLL: Besides sparring with Margarito, I had great work with Jesus Soto Karass.

BJ: Did anything interesting happen in camp?

JLL: There is not much juicy info to give. No one got hurt and everyone was a lot of fun to train with.

BJ: Is this the best camp you have been involved in? And as far as boxing or conditioning work, are there any tips or new techniques you have learned? What have you improved on?

JLL: This, by far, was the best camp ever. This camp truly was a family and everyone made the best out of it. I have improved so much in every area of my game. I know what it takes to be a champion and I definitely know how to train like one. I learned a lot training alongside Rios and Tony and the other guys here in camp, and I'm just adding what I learned into my training.

BJ: As far as Cotto vs. Margarito, who wins this fight and why?

JLL: Tony wins hands down. Cotto is not the same fighter he once was at 147. I think 12 rounds of pressure and hard shots will once again stop him in his tracks. Tony by 12th round KO. I would be shocked if Cotto could take that for 12 rounds; this guy was on fire in the gym. I truly think Antonio Margarito will win. Regardless that I'm in the camp with him, it's how I feel. I think Cotto will not be able to withstand being pressured and being hit with hard shots.

BJ: There are a lot of people who feel strongly that Margarito should not be licenced to fight. I, for one, would agree with that. What do you have to say to us and about the situation with the hand wraps?

JLL: I disagree. I feel he has served his punishment for what happened whether he knew about the wraps or not. You have people that will never get over what happened, so that will be with him forever. I think it's in the past and every one wants to see a good fight on December 3rd.

BJ: So your back in action early next year on January 6th. Any news on the opponent?

JLL: Yes, we will be back at it again early next year. I'm looking forward to it. Haven't heard anything on an opponent yet, but I will definitely be ready.

BJ: What can we expect from you next yea? Could we maybe see you as a contender?

JLL: You can definitely expect to see me rise the ranks and get closer to my dream, and that's becoming the middleweight world champion. I know my advisor and promoter will guide me to become just that.

BJ: It's maybe a bit away, but when would you ideally like a title shot and are there any fighters/champions you have your eyes on?

JLL: I have my eye on no one at this moment; just want to perfect my craft as much as I can so when my opportunity comes, I will be more than ready.

BJ: Any last comments?

JLL: Yeah, thanks for the support and watch my next fight on January 6th. You can get at me on Twitter at @2012Jlove.
