"You know, I'd love to get that Pacquiao fight if I can. It would just have to be at 135 or 140, but I could go up to 147. The playing field is all there; it's just all about making big fights. This is step one with Katsidis; it's going to throw me right in there with those upper-echelon big main event fights...I want to win the title at 135 and do as much as I can, but there's also a lot of good fights at 140. I'm on the chase for those big fights," stated two-division world champion Robert Guerrero as he talked about his upcoming April 9th clash with Michael Katsidis. Check it out!
MJ: Hey Robert, how is it going?
RG: Doing very well, Mike. Good to talk to you again.
MJ: So tell us about the fight coming up with Michael Katsidis. How is training going?
RG: Everything is going great out here in Las Vegas. I'm putting in a full camp getting ready for the fight.
MJ: How do you feel you match up with him style-wise?
RG: I think it's a good matchup. He puts on a lot of pressure, comes to fight, and throws a lot of hard punches; a lot of punches! With my style, I like to get in there and mix it up too and throw hard punches and a lot of punches myself. I think it's going to be a great matchup and a fight for the fans.
MJ: Are you seeing things in him technically that you plan to exploit?
RG: Oh yeah, there's a lot of stuff I'm putting together with my father; we're studying lots of tape. We have our game plan ready and we're going to unveil it on fight night and show everybody. I'm excited! I'm maxing it out and just focusing on boxing.
MJ: In this particular fight, do you feel any pressure to go in there, look good, and go for the knockout?
RG: Nah, I don't feel pressure at all. I'm just going in there to do my thing and get my job done. One of the big things is going in there clear-minded and focused on getting the job done according to the game plan and putting everything together. When you go out there looking for a knockout, most of the time it doesn't come.
MJ: What do you think right now of the current landscape at 135?
RG: There are a lot of fights out there. There are so many fights out there; it's about making big fights and putting good fights together for the fans. We were looking for that Marquez fight. Unfortunately it didn't get put together, but you keep on fighting. I'm focused on Michael Katsidis, and then there will be a lot of fights out there to be made.
MJ: Do you think you will get Marquez down the road, or do you think he will end up getting Manny Pacquiao?
RG: I don't know; we'll see what happens. You know, I'd love to get that Pacquiao fight if I can. It would just have to be at 135 or 140, but I could go up to 147. MJ: How is everything going with your family?
RG: Everything is going great with my family. They're back here going great. My wife and kids are doing great. It's nice to be out here in a training camp and be comfortable in a camp and not worried about what's going on back home. I'm just excited and I can't wait for April 9 because it's going to show a whole different Robert Guerrero, mentally-focused and well-rounded for the fight.
MJ: That's great to hear. I know we've been praying for your family and are happy to hear that everything is going well.
RG: Thank you. A huge part of getting through the day and getting through all the courses we have to go through is prayer. We have a lot of faith to pray and a lot of faith in Jesus Christ being that light to shine our way.
