Three-division world champion and Mexican legend Erik Morales was the last man to ever defeat Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao. Of course, that was back in 2005. This weekend, he's set to square off against the hard-hitting Marcos Maidana in what will be his fourth fight since he officially came out of retirement. While many are curious to see just how Morales will fair against the dangerous 140-pound fighter, there's one man who had no clue that Morales was still fighting, let alone this weekend. "Oh, he's come back? He come back to fight," stated Pacquiao, who appeared to have no idea that Morales officially announced his comeback over a year, and three fights, ago.
Speaking to the On The Ropes Boxing Radio show, Pacquiao was asked his opinion of this weekend's clash between Morales and Maidana. Surprisingly, he was shocked to learn that Morales was no longer retired. When it was explained to him that this would be the fourth fight on the comeback trail for Morales, Pacquiao simply replied, "Oh, good luck to him. I hope he can win."
One would think that after sharing the ring with him on three separate occassions, Pacquiao might have heard by now that Morales officially unretired, especially considering that Morales himself has conducted a number of interviews where he discusses Pacquiao. Then again, a lot has changed since 2005 and given the busy schedule of the Congressman, it's probably understandable why news of one of his fallen foes, even one that he knows as well as Morales, has yet to reach his ears. That being said, Manny knows now. I wonder if he'll tune in to watch Saturday's pay-per-view.
