ANDRE BERTO BLOWS POTENTIAL SHOWDOWN WITH MAYWEATHER

For those that may not have noticed, undefeated pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. was on hand at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut to witness Victor Ortiz's shocking upset of previously undefeated Andre Berto. A source close to the information has informed us that Mayweather's attendance at the fight was no coincidence. Evidently, Mayweather was on hand to scout Berto for a potential showdown later this year. Both Berto and Mayweather share the same adviser, Al Haymon, and according to our source, if Berto would have been victorious, there was a strong possibility that Mayweather would have announced his return to the ring to face the former WBC welterweight champion in a battle of undefeateds.

Unfortunately for Berto, not only did he lose his undefeated record and his WBC welterweight title, but he likely lost what would have been the biggest payday of his career. "He blew it! All he had to do was win and he would've got his biggest payday against Floyd. Man, he just blew it," our source reiterated. While his adviser, Al Haymon, has normally been reluctant to match his own fighters against each other, our source tells us that he was fully prepared to match Berto against Mayweather in order to keep his biggest moneymaker happy and provide a suitable opponent for Floyd's next bout. Furthermore, our source tells us that HBO was also prepared to put their full support behind the potential showdown. Ortiz, however, has clearly thrown a monkey wrench into the plans. While Golden Boy Promotions would love nothing more than to pit Ortiz against Mayweather, our source also tells us that it's doubtful that Mayweather will show any interest in facing the newly crowned welterweight champion.
