"Manny Pacquiao is not just a regular fighter. You have to do many different things. You have to do many different turns and twists. You gotta throw different punches, different right hands, different jabs," stated three-division world champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley, who shared his thoughts on his upcoming May 7th showdown with Manny Pacquiao. Speaking to the media during a conference call held earlier today, Mosley made it clear that he's not taking Pacquiao for granted and is fully aware of what he must do in order to pull off the upset.
"Just like you can't just do one thing with me and expect to win, I gotta do the same thing. I can't just do one thing with Pacquiao. I expect I gotta do a lot of things," Mosley continued as he spoke in generalities to those members of the media who just can't help but to ask a fighter what his strategy is before a bout. In fact, one member of the media questioned whether or not he would have the type of hand speed to be competitive against Pacquiao, but Mosley took it all in stride and replied, "I look at the Margarito fight and I notice that Margarito landed the most punches ever on Manny Pacquiao. Margarito landed the most punches EVER on Manny Pacquiao. Margarito couldn't land punches on me, so if Margarito is fast enough to land punches on Manny Pacquiao, then I know that I'm fast enough to land punches on Manny Pacquiao."
While many have judged his abilities on his last two outings against Sergio Mora and Floyd Mayweather, Mosley is confident that it was simply the clash of styles that played the biggest role in his performances, believing that if it wasn't for those fights, he wouldn't be getting the opportunity to face Pacquiao at all. "If it wasn't for those two fights, I probably wouldn't be here fighting Manny Pacquiao today, so those fights were needed," he added. "I don't care that they're saying that I'm the underdog or not. It doesn't really matter. What matters is what happens in the ring."
