After deleting his Twitter account in order to spend more time being productive, former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion King Mo Lawal has decided to host a mailbag on FightHype.com to stay in touch with fans and answer any and all questions related to himself, mixed martial arts, boxing, or just about anything. Send an email to King Mo at kingmo@fighthype.com and maybe next week, you too can see your questions and Lawal's responses in Mo's Midweek Grind. Check out what fans were asking and what King Mo had to say in this week's mailbag.
King Mo: These are some of the best questions I've got so far on this mailbag.
It's your boy Ryan Tical from Twitter. We spoke on the phone a few times about MMA & Boxing stuff. You honestly think Shane Mosley has a snowball's chance in hell against Pacquiao? After that Mayweather beatdown - Round Three thru Twelve - Shane fell off. He went to a majority draw against Sergio Mora. He isn't the same Shane Mosley that Freddy tried to drain down to 141/140 during negotiations between the two men at his Wild Card Gym. And remember...140 is Pacquiao's "natural weight". I understand the extremely cliched, "styles make fights" phrase. And I agree Shane has to punch, Pacquiao is there to be hit. Having said that, will Pacquiao beat Mosley into submission? ...or will the year of upsets continue?
King Mo: Ryan, what's up, mayne? Shane has a good chance to beat Pac. In combat sports, victories ain't always guaranteed. He fought an overweight Sergio Mora that missed weight, and he fought him at 154. Sergio has skills and can make anyone look bad. He is big, rangy, and can move. Now back to Mosley vs. Pac, I don't know what's gonna happen. We will find out on the 7th. These are two high-level fighters. As a fighter, and a human being, I can and will tell you that no one is unbeatable. In MMA, after a guy wins a few fights and looks good, HE IS UNBEATABLE. LOL. Then once they get beat, whoever beats them is then UNBEATABLE. LOL.
Hey Muhammad, Have you ever thought about becoming a wrestling coach for a college or league? I think with your knowledge of the sport you would do well in the coaching departmentÂ…after you're done fighting of course. Lol. Thanks for your time.
King Mo: I thought about it, but I'd rather coach people who wanna be great. If I'm a coach, I wanna coach raw talent; Kids from the country or inner city. I wanna help kids get an education and become positive contributors of society. And I want them to GDP!
King Mo why did Strikeforce sell out man and give in to Zuffa? I'm not sure you will know the answer, but can you shed a little lite on the situation? Brady
King Mo: I don't think Strikeforce sold out. I'm hearing it was the investors.
How many times a year would be idea for you to fight if you had ur way? Will anything be different for you as far as training/fighting style if you become a ufc fighter??? Thanks for ur time; charles
King Mo: I would love to fight every 3-4 months, and I'd even take a fight on short notice. Nothin' would change with me if I became a UFC fighter. I'd still come in shape, with a good gameplan, and fight to win. Thats the job of a fighter.
Are you a fan of female fights and if so who are some of the chicks you like to watch fight? btw, you ever come to Florida? Michelle
King Mo: I am a fan of women's MMA. I like watchin' 'em all fight cuz they come wit it! Look out for my girl Sara McMann! And Erin Toughill, even though she lost; ring rust had a lot to do with it and she had been battling medical issues. When she gets settled back in the mix, look for her to be back on top again.
Waddup Mo, This is Deric from the Bean, Me n Perc speak all the time and one thing all 3 of us got in common is we all wrestling fans...I read your article that showed ya favorite match was Sting v Flair where the time ran out...LOL I was telling Perc we could go tit for tat on that wrestlin biz....Since u from Screwd n Chopped City (Houston) I went in my head n thought of sum old school matches if u could remember them Gino Hernandez n Chris Adams v the Von Erichs...lol had to hit u Wit sum World Class Shat o n the Six man wit the Free Birds Vs the Von Erichs Kev, Kerry n Fritz (pop dukes) where he was whippin Michael (PS) Hayes wit the Belt...lol
King Mo: What you know about that Freebird Hair Remover? LOL. R.I.P. Gino Hernandez! R.I.P. Chris Adams! R.I.P. Von Erichs! World Class Championship Wrestling! That was some real shit, mayne.
hey mo when you trained with floyd sr. did you happen to get someone to record itÂ…if not that what about when you sparred allan green? I would love to see some footage of that on fighthype. Any luck with either or were those sessions closed. Any response would be much appreciated.
King Mo: I didn't record it. I wish I would've, but I had no one to help me when we was training. When I sparred with Allan, I didnt record it, but next time, I'ma do that. I'm not sure if I would post it though.
Can you give me the pros and cons of being a fighter? At times it seems like it would be cool and then other times it seems like it will be a pain in the ass.
King Mo: Pros: I get to train and fight. I'm healthy. It's fun. I get to learn and understand physical combat and mental warfare. It's a challenge. Having postive and educated fans. Seeing your progression as a fighter. Cons: The media. Negative and ignorant fans. Sacrificing time from family. Missing holidays. Injuries. Cold baths. Sitting in a hyperbaric chamber. Being underappreciated and underrated (Masvidal, Melendez, Diaz, etc.).
I Know yu live out in Cali, but you are from Dallas and born in Tennessee. The Lakers, Mavericks and Grizzlies are all looking tough in the NBA Playoffs right now. Any favorite team?
King Mo: I'm just enjoying the games. Id like to see the Bulls, Memphis, or Mavs win it all!
