Immediately following his impressive third-round stoppage of former title challenger Jesse Brinkley, rumors were quickly buzzing backstage that an offer was in the works for Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin to challenge middleweight king Sergio Martinez later this fall. When asked about the possibility of a potential title challenge, Quillin's trainer, Eric Brown, expressed his opinion that he thinks Peter still needs at least a couple more bouts before taking on such a tough assignment.
Let's Get It On Promotions chief Terry Lane, perhaps still in shock from Quillin's easy victory over his fighter, commented to local media that he believes Peter would knock out Martinez. Hopefully, we won't find out anytime soon, as a win over former Contender star Brinkley is exactly a barometer for how well Quillin will do against arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Then again, given some of the other names that have been tossed around for Martinez's return to the ring, perhaps Peter Quillin isn't such a bad choice after all.
